We are helping our client in their search for an experienced EHS Manager to join a capacity expansion project in the food industry.
Organization
The project involves a capacity expansion within an existing production facility. The scope includes the implementation of a new, as well as the upgrade of an existing production and filling line. The project will be executed in a brownfield environment, with a strong focus on safe integration into ongoing operations, hygienic design, operational readiness and compliance with food industry standards
Function
Align with client HSE standards and develop & implement the project HSE plan to ensure occupational health, safety, and environmental protection during the planning, construction, and installation phases as well as compliance to statutory requirements.
Evaluation and Adaptation of HSE Standards
Analyze existing HSE policies and procedures at the client
Identify project-specific risks and improvement opportunities
Adapt and further develop HSE requirements considering:
Construction and installation activities
Food industry requirements (e.g. hygiene, contamination prevention)
Legal and regulatory requirements
Development of a Project-Specific HSE Plan
Develop and implement a comprehensive HSE concept for the project
Conduct risk assessments
Define:
Safety measures and work instructions
Emergency and evacuation procedures
KPIs and reporting structures
Coordination with Project Stakeholders
Align the HSE plan with:
Client organization
Suppliers and equipment manufacturers
Construction and installation contractors
Conduct HSE kick-offs and safety briefings
Ensure integration of HSE requirements into contracts and workflows
Implementation and On-Site Supervision
Monitor compliance with all HSE requirements during construction and installation
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits
Collaborate with all parties to identify and mitigate risks
Enforce safety measures, including stop-and-fix authority in case of unsafe work
Incident Management & Prevention
Establish a system for reporting:
Accidents
Near misses
Investigate incidents (root cause analysis)
Define and track corrective actions
Promote a proactive safety culture
Training and Documentation
Organize training sessions (e.g. toolbox talks)
Raise awareness of HSE topics among all stakeholders
Prepare regular HSE reports
Document all safety-related activities and incident
In general
Promote a safety culture throughout the project team and workforce
Identify and mitigate health, safety and environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle
Implement and monitor the project HSE Management Plan
Advise on the performance of the health, safety and environmental services in line with cliets requirements and the agreed plans
Facilitate incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions
Conduct inspections on a regular basis and ensure site standards are being met
Attend all coordination meetings to ensure works are being planned and carried out safely
Review and approve contractor HSE plans and risk assessments
Requirements
Senior EHS Manager with experience in construction projects within the food or pharmaceutical industry, combining strong regulatory expertise with hands-on site operations experience.
5–10+ years of EHS experience, including multiple large-scale projects
Strong focus on construction site safety
Proven track record in implementing HSE plans
Certified Safety Specialist (SiFa) + Safety and Health Coordinator (SiGeKo) + experience with ISO 45001 / 14001
Fluency in English, and German language skills is essential
